Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst may hear “booms” and feel “rumbles” this weekend.
The G Battery of the 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment and the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment are conducting artillery and mortar firing training through Sunday, according to a military press release. In addition, Marine air gunnery training will take place Saturday as part of a combined training effort with both units.
Firing is scheduled to cease at 11 p.m. each day.
“This training is essential and helps to ensure the readiness of America’s fighting force. As a result of these units performing their important training, residents may hear more noise than usual coming from the ranges and may experience possible ground shaking. It is important to note that noise from the ranges may travel farther during overcast weather conditions,” the release states.
The 42,000-acre installation spans more than 20 miles through portions of Burlington and Ocean counties.
