Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was just in Bucks County for a rally Sunday, but he’s scheduled one more visit to Pennsylvania, staging a rally near the Pittsburgh airport today.
I always wonder if it makes sense for a candidate to put local supporters through the effort and distraction of a major rally on election day, when they need to focus on get-out-the-vote operations. But Romney is pressing hard to win the state’s 20 electoral votes, and he’ll get TV coverage both in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.
Democrats say the Republicans’ late push for Pennsylvania is borne of desperation – that the Romney campaign has decided it will likely lose Ohio, and is desperately reaching to put together a winning electoral combination.
Whatever the motivation, they’ve come to the state with a staggering effort. According to this tally by PoliticsPa, the Romney campaign and its allies have put nearly $12 million into advertising in Pennsylvania in the last week of the campaign. The Obama campaign responded with $1.6 million worth of ads.
I guess we should be thankful we haven’t been a swing state all along – we’d all be crying like Abby Evans.
