Robots face off on the basketball court in Philadelphia

Robots are getting faster and smarter. That’s is to be expected, but the people who are building them are also getting younger. This weekend, the craftsmanship and computer programming skills of high school students were put to the test in a robot basketball game. Students from 38 high schools competed at the FIRST Robotics District Competition at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in Northwest Philadelphia.

Robots built by students played three-on-three basketball in two minute matches where remote controlled robots took shots at multiple baskets then tried to gain bonus points by trying to balance on a teeter-totter-style platform.

The home team 1218 was part of the winning alliance and is now qualified for the Philadelphia Regional competition
