Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Help us welcome back Port Richmond

Oh hey, Port Richmond, nice to see you again!

The Riverwards neighborhood pops up in the Northeast pretty frequently when the mainstream media get their hands on news stories outside Center City. Frankford and Tacony have both been mistaken for Port Richmond.

Thursday, Wissinoming found itself with a new name.

The Dunkin’ Donuts at Torresdale and Harbison avenues was robbed Thursday morning. And when Action News showed up at the scene, the reporting team somehow neglected to realize that Port Richmond is in a different part of the city. On the other side of that border we call the Frankford Creek.

Action News owes an apology to Port Richmond for assigning the neighborhood an armed robbery it has nothing to do with, and one to Wissinoming for its complete failure to serve as a news source for the people who live there.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
