Revel Casino could ban casino-floor smoking, pave the way for other casinos
Revel Casino officials haven’t said a word, but Smoke-Free Gaming of America says the new Atlantic City gaming facility plans to ban smoking on the casino floor.
It wouldn’t be a first in the city, where casino-floor smoking was banned in 2008 for a short time before the standard became restricting smoking to just 25 percent of the casino floor.
But the new casino could be a model of things to come in Atlantic City.
Smoke-Free Gaming of America Chairwoman Stephanie Steinberg gave the Press of Atlantic City some interesting ideas about why she thinks a ban wouldn’t affect gambling revenue. For one, nonsmokers outlive smokers by about 14 years. That’s more than a decade of revenue loss for casinos that allow gamblers to light up.
