Retired judge killed in Philly house fire

A retired Philadelphia judge has died in a fatal house fire in the city’s south Philadelphia neighborhood.

WPVI-TV reports that 86-year-old Anthony DeFino has been identified as the victim in Sunday evening’s fire, which broke out at about 7 p.m.

Defino spent 19 years as a judge in the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court, He retired in 2007.

A firefighter at the scene told the TV station that “one adult male” was found on the first floor of the twin home. Investigators say a woman who was inside the house escaped.

A fire department official declined to comment late Sunday, saying personnel were still at the scene investigating.
