Research: Philly still tops national list of sweatpants-buying

Philadelphia is the most comfortable city for the second year in a row.

But wait, there’s a catch there.

Comfort level is based on residents’ sweatpants purchases. So to rephrase that, Philadelphia is the nation’s top per capita consumer of sweatpants for the second year in a row.

The ranking comes from Experian Simmons Marketing Servicesand is based on a survey that asked respondents about their sweats purchases over the last year. Hartford, Conn.; Pittsburgh; Lafayette, La.; and Laredo, Texas rounded out the top five. Chicago was at the bottom of the list at No. 20, which has us wondering — aren’t the people of Chicago freezing their behinds off?

Researcher John Fetto, clearly a glass-half-full kind of guy, told CBS3 one reason for the city’s high rate of sweatpants purchases could be because we’re more physically active.

Or maybe we just really love our many sports teams and colleges. Whatever the case, at least we’re not the top per capita consumer of pajama pants.
