Report: Man fatally struck by NJ Transit train in Asbury Park Tuesday afternoon

    A man was fatally struck by a NJ Transit train in Asbury Park Tuesday afternoon, according to a report on APP.com.

    The incident, which happened shortly after 4 p.m., occurred near a trestle bridge over Deal Lake as the train was heading south to the Asbury Park station when a man laid down in front of an approaching train, the report states.

    An NJ Transit spokesman tells the newspaper that the engineer was unable to stop prior to striking the man. 

    Authorities have not released the deceased man’s name.
