Report: Barge in Navesink River off Fair Haven emits smoke, but no fire

An investigation into smoke rising from the Navesink River off Fair Haven Monday morning found that there was no fire, a report on Red Bank Green‘s Twitter feed reveals.

A possible vessel fire in the river off Battin Road was reported at 9:42 a.m., according to the report.

But firefighters responded and found no fire.

Instead, the smoke column resulted from a worker on a dock-building barge put oil into a diesel engine, the report said.
