NJ police, firefighters to rally at Statehouse in Trenton
New Jersey’s capital is about to see the second protest rally in a week by public workers.
Organizers say up to 10,000 off-duty and retired police officers and firefighters are expected to make a show of force outside the Statehouse in Trenton today. They contend that budget cuts and layoffs have thinned their ranks to unsafe levels.
Public school teachers, university professors and the Communications Workers of America will have a presence at the rally.
Organized labor members from Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan also are expected to join the New Jersey police and firefighters.
