Race Street Pier trees are here

The first four of the 37 trees that will line Race Street Pier arrived just after 8 Thursday morning.

The large caliper white swamp oaks, purchased with the help of donations, are surplus grown for the 9-11 memorial in New York. The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation chose to go with the larger trees to give the park a more finished, established feel when it opens next month.

More trees are expected to arrive throughout the morning. Placement of the trees begins today.
