Police struggle, disarm troubled man in Montgomery County

Police in Montgomery County struggled and disarmed a man who wanted to commit “suicide by cop.”

Abington police stopped the 32-year-old at Limekiln Pike and Mount Carmel Avenue overnight.

The officers discovered the man had a gun and a struggle for the weapon ensued, with police firing five shots from the weapon to empty it. The man was wrestled to the ground.

An officer sustained a shoulder injury and had trouble hearing because the gun discharged near his ear.
