A man reportedly approached juveniles near a recreation area in Brick Saturday and asked them a variety of questions, police said.

Police responded to the Drum Point Sports Complex around 11:00 a.m. after receiving a report of a “suspicious male subject,” according to Brick Police Department Det. Sgt. Henry J. Drew in a release.

“The caller advised police dispatch that the subject was asking several juveniles if they ‘needed a ride,’ ‘where they lived,’ and ‘if they wanted cigarettes,’ he said.

Arriving officers checked the area and found the man who matched the description, according to Drew.

“The Brick Township Police Department is familiar with the subject, but would like to speak with anyone who may have come into direct contact with him,” he said. “This complaint was received by the Brick Township Police through a third party, and we have been unable to speak with anyone that was directly approached by the subject.”

Drew said that the investigation is ongoing, adding that his department has increased patrols in the area.

“If you or anyone you know had contact with him, please contact Det. James Burgess in the Brick Township Police Detective Bureau at (732) 262-1115. The Brick Police Department can also be contacted directly at 732-262-1100.”
