Police search for Germantown grocery store robber

Philadelphia police are searching for an unidentified man caught on tape robbing an East Germantown corner store last Thursday.

At around 6 a.m. on Dec. 20, the suspect forced open the basement door of Tavares Grocery Store near the corner of Chelten Avenue and Heiskell Street and stole an undetermined amount of cash and $800 worth of cigarettes. He then fled in an unknown direction.

Police describe the suspect as a black male between 20 and 30 years-old with a scruffy beard and a stocky build. The offender was wearing a dark knit hat, dark hooded jacket, blue jeans and black and white sneakers at the time of the incident.
