Police officer hurt during Germantown traffic stop

A Philadelphia police officer was injured early Monday morning when someone who had been pulled over on the 800 block of E. Washington Lane, near Chew Avenue, hit the gas when instructed to turn the vehicle off.

Police said the driver of a 2003 Cadillac was pulled over for driving without headlights at 1:38 a.m. The officer – whose name was not released Tuesday – then determined the driver had a suspended license. When told to turn the vehicle off, the driver allegedly put it in gear and started to drive off.

Since the driver’s side door was open, the officer was dragged an estimated 10 feet, suffering contusions and a neck strain. The officer was treated and released from Albert Einstein Medical Center. Police said they know who the driver is, but have yet to make an arrest.
