Police: Man, 22, shoots father on busy Philly highway

State police say a 22-year-old Philadelphia man shot his father in a car during rush hour on a busy highway in the city’s suburbs.

Troopers say the 42-year-old victim was wounded in the head around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday while driving on the outbound Schuylkill Expressway in West Conshohocken. He was able to safely stop the vehicle.

The man is listed in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

The 22-year-old is in police custody. Charges are pending.

Police say the 22-year-old was sitting in the backseat of a 2010 Buick Lacrosse when he pulled the trigger. They say another family member was also in the car.

The shooting snarled traffic for hours. The expressway’s eastbound lanes remained closed until about 7 p.m. The westbound lanes reopened around 8 p.m.
