Plans to use old West Philly High site for graduate, faculty housing

West Philly residents and stakeholders spent Saturday morning listening to details of a plan to turn the former West Philadelphia High School building into apartments for grad students and faculty of nearby universities.

The building is one of several the School District of Philadelphia is selling.

West Philly Local has details from the meeting, during which New York-based Strong Place Partners discussed their impending purchase of the building and plans for 300 apartments.

    Some highlights:

The apartments will be geared toward people in their mid-20s to mid-50s with connections to nearby universities.
The ground floor will have 15,000 sq. ft. of retail space.
Rents will start at $800-$850 per month for studios.

One thing that still needs to be worked out? Big surprise — parking.
