Plans begin for new Christina River bridge

Wilmington Initiatives will sponsor a public session next week to discuss plans for a new Christina River bridge. The bridge would include links to I-95, I-495, U.S. 13 and local roads.

Plans from the Delaware Department of Transportation call for the bridge to connect the Riverfront area south of the Shipyard with U.S. 13 south of the South Walnut Street and South Market Street split, the Wilmington News Journal reports.

About 80 percent of land and construction costs would go on the Federal Highway Administration’s tab. The project is estimated at $45 million, with work beginning around 2014.

The public meeting is Monday, May 16 at the Center on the Riverfront from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
