Phoenixville police solve 13-year-old cold case

Phoenixville police have solved a 13-year-old rape case, which could result in a lengthy prison stay for the accused, who’s already serving a 25-year sentence for unrelated crimes.

Misdemeanor and felony charges have been filed against Ronald Ellis Mapp in connection with the 1998 rape of a woman on Nutt Road near Althouse Lane, as the Mercury reports.

Mapp, 35, was tracked down using new DNA technology, and was found in the United States Penitentiary in Coleman, Fla., where he’s service out criminal homicide and robbery charges.

The 12-year statute of limitations on rape  allows for an additional year to files charges after a formerly unknown suspect is identified with new DNA evidence.
