Philly college campus closed after report of gun

Police are investigating a report of a person with a handgun at a community college in Philadelphia. No injuries were reported.

Lt. John Stanford tells KYW-TV that someone reported seeing the weapon at the Community College of Philadelphia shortly after noon Wednesday.

He says the weapon was never pointed at anyone and no threats were made, but officers were clearing the building floor by floor to make sure the individual was no longer there.

The college said on its website saying the main campus had been closed due to an “emergency situation.”

People were asked not to come to the campus north of the city center. Those on campus were told to shelter in place awaiting further instructions.

Nearby Julia R. Masterman school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
