Philadelphian man arrested by Newark CBP for allegedly smuggling heroin

Twenty-three-year-old Michael Aaron Scriber of Philadelphia was arrested by Customs and Boarder Protection Oct. 1 for allegedly smuggling heroin at the Newark Liberty National Airport, according to a news release.

CBP discovered three pellets of suspected heroin in Scriber’s cargo shorts pocket during a pat down. Scriber later passed 37 thumb-sized pellets of heroin, equaling a possession of 40 pellets of the narcotic.

“This heroin arrest illustrates the critical observation skills that CBP Officers employ on our nation’s front lines to intercept bad things before they can cause our citizens great harm,” said Robert E. Perez, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.

The combined weight of the narcotic Scriber had was over one pound and had an approximate street value of about $35,000.
