Philadelphia lawyer resigns from Postal Service board during ethics investigation

Philadelphia lawyer Alan Kessler has resigned from the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors as the Office of Inspector General investigates his role in a plan to thwart a property purchase.

Kessler, a partner at Duane Morris, is found to have pressed other postal executives to back off a plan the Postal Service had to purchase property is was leasing in Florida. The agency began leasing the property since 1965, and had the chance to buy it at a competitive price, but the Inspector General’s report says Kessler was instead trying to prevent the purchase, which would have been costly to a friend.

The Philadelphia Business Journal has more details on Kessler’s history.
