Philadelphia Fire Department takes over as sponsor for state task force

With Harrisburg relinquishing its role as the sponsoring agency of Pennsylvania Task Force One, the Philadelphia Fire Department has stepped in.

Congressman Bob Brady announced late yesterday the Federal Emergency Management Agency selected the fire department to sponsor PA-TF1 — one of 28 task forces of the National Urban Search & Rescue Response System.

The US&R Response System is a networks of federal, state and local partner emergency response teams with 28 task forces around the country that FEMA can deploy during disasters.

Representatives from FEMA, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and National US&R Response System met Tuesday to appoint a new sponsoring agency.
