Philadelphia City Council advances “cash for gold” legislation

While DROP took precedence in Philadelphia City Council today, other legislation was up for discussion, too. Among the bills that advanced is the measure that would regulate “cash for gold” stores in the city by including them in the Zoning Code under the same rules that apply to pawnshops.

Should the bill pass full Council, cash-for-gold stores that crop up after that would not be permitted anywhere pawnshops are not permitted. Now, though, such stores can operate much the same way jewelry stores do.

NewsWorks partner PlanPhilly has the full story of the bill and the store that sparked it.
