Phila Mayor Nutter: BRT change should be significant

    Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says the agency that assesses property taxes needs to undergo “significant change.” Nutter made the comment this morning on WHYY’s Morning Edition.

    Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says the agency that assesses property taxes needs to undergo “significant change.” Nutter made the comment this morning on WHYY’s Morning Edition.

    The Mayor and City Council leaders will meet on Wednesday (9/30) to discuss a new report that outlines various reform options for the Board of Revision of Taxes. The mayor says it will be a full range of discussion. He says the fundamentals that he hopes to get some level of agreement on some of the options presented in the report.

    There are a number of them but the mayor did mention these two:

    a) Abolish the BRT and start over
    b) Divide it in half between property tax assessments vs. ruling on appeals.
