Phanatic takes a ball to the neck during minor league game

An injury at last night’s IronPigs game sent a Phillie to the hospital. The Phillie. The Phanatic.

While working the crowd at Wednesday’s minor league game, the lovable green guy took a foul ball to the neck in the top of the third. And as WHYY’s Peter Crimmins learned at the start of the Phillies season, the Phanatic’s neck is Tom Burgoyne’s head.

Burgoyne, the Phanatic for 23 seasons, was taken to an area hospital and later released, as KYW reports. Hope the Phillies don’t put him on the DL.
