People to remember on Labor Day

When you’re firing up the grill this weekend and lamenting the end of summer, take a second to remember what Labor Day is all about.

It’s about labor, by the way. Yes, that national holiday that grants most of us a three-day weekend is a celebration of work.

The Daily Constitution has a list of folks you might want to thank for that three-day weekend.

Like Samuel Gompers, who began working at age 10 and has a West Philadelphia school named after him. Or Frances Perkins, the first female Cabinet member in the nation.
