Pennsylvania’s oldest resident turns 111

Flossie Carter is now 111 years and one day old. The Pittsburgh resident, believe to be Pennsylvania’s oldest, turned 11 yesterday.

WTAE visited Carter yesterday for the celebration, which spanned the city. Mayor Luke Ravenstahl declared Thursday “Flossie Carter Day” in the Pittsburgh.

Carter moved to Pittsburgh from her native Alabama after the Great Depression to help raise her grandchildren, and now has more than 60 descendants.
