His name was Walter Neubrand, and he’s one of four men charged with watching over the Stanley Cup wherever it goes. Neubrand says he gets all sorts of questions from fans.

Neubrand: We get what’s it made out of? How much does it weigh? But do get the odd person who wants to hoist it. That’s kind of reserved for the players who have earned that right. So they understand.

Neubrand, who works as a teacher as his day job, insists he was off duty when the Penguins threw the Cup into Mari o Lemieux’s pool during a party.

Neubrand: I was at my desk in my classroom and I had about five different people send me those pictures. And I’m just like, ohhh boy. What do we got here.

Major League Baseball and the NFL make new trophies each season, but hockey teams have been trying to win the same Cup for 117 years now.
