Pennsylvania native named new chief of naval operations

A Pennsylvania native has been named as the Navy’s new chief of naval operations.

The Associated Press reports Adm. Jonathan Greenert was installed today as the 30th chief of naval operations.  Greenert is a native of Butler, Pennsylvania and a 1975 Naval Academy graduate.

Greenert replaces Adm. Gary Roughead, who is also a Naval Academy graduate.

The Associated Press says Greenert previously served as a submarine commander and most recently as vice chief of naval operations.
