PECO explosion causes burns, power outages in Pottstown

Several businesses in Pottstown are operating on generators this morning following a manhole explosion yesterday that left a PECO employee with “significant” burns and knocked out power.

Not many details are known about the explosion, which occurred when a PECO supervisor was underground installing new electrical transformers, the Pottstown Mercury reports.

The explosion occurred around 3 p.m. Sunday near the Susquehanna Bank on High Street near Hanover Street. Crews are investigating the exact cause.
