Partial FAA shutdown furloughs 600 in Egg Harbor Township
A partial shutdown of the FAA is hitting close to home for more than 600 employees at the William J. Hughes Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township Saturday.
According to the Press of Atlantic City, some 639 employees at the Egg Harbor Township tech center were furloughed after federal lawmakers failed to avert a shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The shutdown occurred after federal lawmakers were unable to resolve a partisan dispute over an extension of the FAA’s operating authority, according to the report,
The Press of Atlantic City reports nearly 4,000 FAA employees nationwide will be temporarily out of work until the extension can be negotiated.
Federal airline taxes will also be suspended, as a result of the shutdown.
