Parents sue Morey’s Piers for daughter’s Ferris Wheel death

The parents of Abiah Jones have sued Morey’s Piers over the death of their daughter, who fell from the Wildwood Ferris Wheel last month.

Twanda and Byron Jones have filed for an unspecified amount of compensation, the Daily News reports, in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court.

A preliminary report released two weeks after the 11-year-old’s death did not find any mechanical defects with the ride, and concluded the girl may have been improperly seated when she fell. A lawyer for the family says high winds may have contributed to an unsteady gondola.

Morey’s Piers has since changed its safety guidelines for the Ferris Wheel, which reopened in mid-June.
