Parents show up early for kindergarten enrollment at Penn Alexander

For young parents in West Philadelphia, Penn Alexander is the place to be.

The University of Pennsylvania-sponsored school has become an exclusive club for families living in and near the building’s catchment. And because the state of education in Philadelphia isnt what we’d call great at the moment, Penn Alexander’s success has parents waiting in line to get their kids a spot in the crowded school.

    Literally standing in line.

West Philly local snapped a photo yesterday morning of parents standing outside the school a full 24 hours before kindergarten enrollment began. Later today, we’ll hear from Maiken Scott on why parents love PAS, what they consider the alternatives, and if neighboring schools in West Philadelphia can ever expect such a demand.
