Panel meets today to weigh New Jersey sports betting

How likely is it sports betting will be legalized in New Jersey. Very, if Sen. Ray Lesniak has anything to do with it.

He tells WHYY/NewsWorks’ Phil Gregory if and when voters move to support a November referendum to legalize sport gambling, “we will start sports betting in New Jersey and let the Justice Department try to shut it down.”

Currently the federal government prohibits sports betting in New Jersey — a ban Lesniak says is unconstitutional, especially given that the ban doesn’t apply to Nevada’s casinos.
