PA voter I.D. law has questionable ancestry

The state of Pennsylvania concedes there is no evidence of prior voter fraud. But the possibility of voter fraud is supposedly the reason for the voter I.D. law.

The claim is that we must make sure voters are who they say they are in order to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.  Given that those disenfranchised by the law will be overwhelmingly young, black, Hispanic and elderly, the position of the Republicans becomes clear:  In order to maintain the integrity of our democracy’s electoral process, we must disenfranchise as many Democrats as possible.
