Pa. Superior Court candidates report finances ahead of Nov. elections
Big bucks from the Republican Party and Philadelphia trial lawyers have put GOP candidate Vic Stabile ahead of his Democratic foe in the campaign for an opening on Pennsylvania’s Superior Court.
Campaign finance reports filed Friday showed Stabile has raised more than $250,000. Democrat Jack McVay Jr. reported raising nearly $96,000. That includes at least $29,000 from organized labor groups.
Stabile is a Harrisburg lawyer and former Cumberland County Republican Party chairman. McVay is an Allegheny County judge.
Stabile’s contributions include $50,000 from the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association’s political committee, $30,000 from Gov. Tom Corbett, $20,000 from GOP legislative leaders and $2,500 from the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
The contest is the only statewide race on the Nov. 5 ballot, which features many races for local offices and judgeships.
