Pa. slot machines take in $2.4 billion in ’12
Pennsylvania casinos brought in more than $2.4 billion from slot machines in 2012, a 2.7 percent increase over 2011.
A Philadelphia-area casino helped increase the overall take for gambling in the state, according to Doug Harbach of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
“We would have seen a slight rise in revenue generated from slot machine gaming but the amount up to 3 percent is certainly due in large part to the opening of the Valley Forge Casino Resort earlier this year,” Harbach said.
SugarHouse Casino, in Philadelphia, saw a revenue increase of 11 percent in 2012; Parx Casino in Bensalem was up about 2 percent; and Harrah’s in Chester was down 3 percent.
Pennsylvania taxes slot machines at 55 percent, which translated into $1.3 billion for the state last year.
