Pa. Department of Health says be wary of decorative contact lenses

The Pennsylvania departments of Health and State are warning people to think twice about completing their Halloween costumes with decorative contact lenses.

If you think that Catwoman suit will look better with cat-eye contacts, consider whether the potential eye damage is worth it.

“Contact lenses that are improperly fitted or used can cause the loss of an eye, blindness, impaired vision, corneal damage, infection and allergic reactions,” the state departments warn.
“Every eye has its own unique shape and curvature, and many of these decorative lenses lack proper instruction for use.”

If you think the lenses really make the costume, check with a physician or optometrist before wearing them. Or consider a costume that requires a face mask — no contacts required.
