Overbrook Farms residents at odds over historical designation

On the edge of West Philadelphia sits Overbrook Farms, a tiny enclave of large, historic homes on quiet streets.

The residents there like all that, but it’s the historic part that has them at odds.

PlanPhilly reports residents are split about whether the small neighborhood should be added to the National Register of Historic Places. Placement on the registry limits alterations residents can make to their homes.

The Overbrook Farms Club wants the designation, some residents don’t, and Councilman Curtis Jones sits in the middle as both parties wait to hear which side he’ll fall on.

A meeting with the Historical Commission is scheduled for Feb. 10, but the decision may not come down to opinions. Historic is historic, regardless of what residents want.
