Over the Edge for Special Olympics Delaware
Facing fears or enjoying the thrill, about 100 volunteers rappel down the 17 story office building at 300 Delaware Avenue in downtown Wilmington to raise money for Special Olympics.
Volunteers going over the edge had to raise $1,000 to be eligible to take the plunge. It’s the second year the Special Olympics has taken to the sky to raise money through the Over the Edge event. In last year’s inaugural event, 89 ‘edgers’ raised more than $100,000.
The new May tradition is another high profile way for Special Olympics to raise money. The group’s long running Polar Plunge has raised more than $6.15 million over the past 21 years. This February, the Plunge set a record with nearly 3,700 “polar bears” jumping in the chilly Atlantic Ocean and raising more than $650,000 for Special Olympics.
