Outages reported as fire crews fight utility substation fire
Tens of thousands of electric customers were reported to be without power as fire crews battled a blaze at a north Philadelphia utility substation.
The Philadelphia fire department reports that the blaze at the PECO substation in the Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
PECO’s outage map lists 90 outages in the city with more than 35,000 customers without power. A utility representative didn’t immediately respond to a call seeking comment.
No injuries have been reported.
WPVI-TV reported that crews are working to de-energize the area so firefighters can put out the fire, and they are also trying to re-route power to customers.
