Operations reinstated at Bensalem fire company as new chief is brought in

Operations resumed Friday at Bensalem’s Union Fire Co. after the volunteer fire company went dark Monday.

The township suspended operations last week over what the public safety director said has been multiple issues with the leadership when it came to coordinating with nearby paid fire companies.

Friday’s announcement came with another: Bensalem Patch reports 16-year Union member Ray Hackman is the new chief, despite protests from many volunteers.

Operations were reinstated as part of an agreement by the company to work with a township oversight board. That board could ultimately decide to reappoint former chief Vince Troisi.
