One Book, One Philadelphia begins tomorrow

Pick up a copy of War Dances if you haven’t already. The Sherman Alexie short story/poem collection has been chosen for this year’s One Book, One Philadelphia campaign, which kicks off tomorrow.

Participants in the program’s ninth consecutive year will learn about Native American culture through Alexie’s book during the nine-week event.

The program starts off with a performance by Red Blanket Singers and Dancers of the Lenni Lenape Nation; Udi Bar-David, Philadelphia Orchestra cellist; and Grammy Award- winning Navajo-Ute flutist R. Carlos Nakai. Alexie will make an appearance on video. It’s all happening tomorrow night at the Central Library, with subsequent events and related books at other libraries throughout the city.
