The large, wind-driven wildfire that broke out in Cheesequake State Park in Old Bridge Sunday morning was declared under control Wednesday morning, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service announced.

Dubbed the “Old Wildfire” by fire officials, the blaze burned through 230-acres of a pine and hardwood mix forest with some tidal marsh areas, New Jersey Forest Fire Service Incident Commander Trevor Raynor said.

Stormy weather helped crews with fire suppression efforts.

“The fire received about 1.8-inches of rain overnight and moderate tidal flooding,” Raynor said.
