Ocean County residents getting phone calls from unknown police organization

Ocean County residents are being warned of phone calls in which callers claim to be collecting donations for a police organization.

Toms River Patch reports “the New Jersey Police Officers’ Foundation, a project of the Italian-American Society” has been calling homes around the county, but police chiefs say they’ve never heard of the organization and that local departments seek donations through mailers.

Residents are advised not to give any important information over the phone. A website for the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey has a phone number and email form to take questions.
