Ocean County getting most Sandy housing aid

Records show more than 60 percent of Superstorm Sandy state housing assistance is going to homeowners in Ocean County.

Nearly $14 million of the $23 million spent on the Sandy Housing Rental Assistance Program has helped 5,137 Ocean County residents pay their bills and housing expenses.

That’s nearly double the number of Monmouth County residents and six times as many people in Atlantic County who have applied for help.

Ted Gooding, who administers the program in Ocean County, tells The Press of Atlantic City officials are expecting another 5,000 people in Ocean County to seek assistance next year. Gooding says officials believe as many as 25,000 people are still displaced.
