The combination of an onshore flow and the astronomical high tide associated with Sunday’s supermoon will likely result in minor tidal flooding Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the communities along the Raritan Bay and counties facing the Atlantic Ocean from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Along the oceanside and Raritan Bay, high tide occurs between 8:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. It then occurs a few hours later in the back bays.

“Minor tidal flooding often results in some road closures. Usually, the most vulnerable roadways will flood,” the flood bulletin advises. “Do not leave you vehicle at a location that is prone to tidal flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flood waters. The water may be deeper than you think it is. You will be putting yourself in danger and your vehicle may be damaged, leading to costly repairs.”
