Kids Run for the George Fund:  Enjoy a fun-filled family carnival atmosphere while helping terminally ill children.  The 3rd Annual Kids Run is for the whole family.  Children ages 1-14 participate in fun races with the crowd cheering everyone on!  This event celebrates life and includes free carnival games, face painting, arts and crafts, a moon bounce and more.

The George Fund was named for George Hedges Pappert who died just before his 5th birthday.  He was able to spend his final months at home with his family thanks to the support from Keystone Hospice.   After his passing, his parents established the Fund so that other families could have access to hospice services.  Funds from the run help families whose insurance plans don’t cover pediatric hospice care.

The race registration begins at 5 p.m. and races start at 6 p.m. Children ages 1-3 will run, skip, crawl, or be carried 50 yards; 4- to 5-year-olds will run 100 yards; 6-to 7-year-olds will run 200 yards and those 8 through 14 will run one mile. The first 200 participants will receive a t-shirt, and medal.  Register online. The run is held at Springfield High School, 1801 PaperMill Road in Erdenheim PA.

Friday night is also Decorate-a-Cupcake night at Bredenbecks Bakery in Chestnut Hill.  6-8pm.  FREE for kids 12 and younger!

    Saturday, June 2nd

Jenks Playground Clean Up, 8am-11am.  Many hands are needed to keep this community playground and garden maintained.  On Saturday, 100 cubic yards of fresh new ground cover needs to be spread throughout the entire playground.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, pitchforks and shovels for this effort.   In 1997, the community raised funds and built the entire playground and garden. It’s been maintained through community donations and volunteer labor.  Everyone is encouraged to come keep this great playspace in good shape for the children.  The playground is located at Southampton & Germantown Avenues in Chestnut Hill.
