Nutter on violence: ‘No more slaps on the wrist’

Philadelphia has a bit of a murder problem and Mayor Michael Nutter ain’t havin’ it.

Known to make impassioned speeches when things get especially tough, Nutter is expected to go a step further in announcing new strategies for preventing crime and catching criminals.

“To every criminal out there, I just put a $20,000 bounty on your head!” Nutter told the crowd gathered in Strawberry Mansion for his news conference with Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey, District Attorney Seth Williams and other city officials. “We need to protect the good citizens. So I’m announcing today we will immediately double funding in our witness assistance program.”

WHYY/NewsWorks’ Lizz Fiedler will have the full story later.
